THE MAKE-UP TREND, NOW FOR YOUR HAIR!
Similar to the contour trend in make-up, the face can be perfectly contoured with hair contouring through the interplay of light and dark. Highlighted strands placed close to the face make your most flattering features stand out, while darker sections create a slimming effect and conceal smaller flaws.
THE DIFFERENCE WITH HIGHLIGHTING?
Hair contouring differs in the desired effect and technique. Highlighting techniques (such as balayage and ombré effects) use lightening products to create eye-catching streaks of color in the hair. While the goal of hair contouring is to optically enhance the face by precisely accentuating your best features and giving volume as well as dimension to the hair.
Highlighting techniques are applied to the full head using the regular brush and foil or cap techniques, while hair contouring applies contour lights with a special brush applicator to the frontal hair.
CONTOURING STYLE GUIDE FOR EVERY HAIR LENGTH
Apply contour lights very targeted on short hair, a few strands in the front area near the face are enough to create depth and dimension. Before applying, brush the hair in the direction you would normally wear it.
STYLING TIP: Create an optical illusion of volume in short hair by brushing the front hair up and starting the contour 1 cm above the hairline.
Ladies with mid length hair have more room to play. To lengthen the face, contour the full length starting from 1 cm below the roots. To accentuate cheekbones and mouth start a partial contour from the ears into the hair length.
STYLING TIP: Frame the face by styling hair outward from the face, this particularly works well with mid-length to long contoured hair.
Girls with long hair have the luxury of being able to use all mid-length style tips, but even more areas can be contoured. For example, to soften the shape of the chin start a contour from the jawline down. If you wear a ponytail or bun, try placing a few contour lights in the outline of the neck to create depth in the hair and accentuate your neck.
APPLICATION TIP: First style your hair in a bun leaving the first 5 cm of your frontal hair free. This method reveals the sections of the hair which could be contoured. For shoulder-length hair we recommend two packs to ensure full coverage.
